Integrative Counselling in Stowmarket, Ipswich and Online

Initial Consultation

I always feel that it's useful to have a short telephone discussion or online meeting (10-15 minutes maximum) just to see how we feel about working together in counselling, answer any initial questions, and consider if I am the right person to support your issues.

To begin with, I will offer you a full initial session (50 minutes, £50), which is a great opportunity to test whether it is for you before making any firm commitments. It allows us to meet and explore what you are hoping to gain from therapy and how I might help. After your first session, you can decide if you want to continue. We'll take it from there at your own pace.

How I Work

Relational Approach

As a relational counsellor, the therapeutic relationship is central to the work that we will do together. This relationship can offer an expression of your own way of being with yourself and with others. I will work closely with you in a safe and non-judgmental space where your thoughts and feelings can be gently explored at your own pace.

Integrative Counselling

Being an integrative counsellor means I am able to adapt a range of counselling approaches specifically to meet your individual needs. I will work with you to facilitate healing and wholeness, taking into account your individual circumstances, using aspects of various approaches to help you explore and cope with your problems.

In Person and Online Options

I offer face-to-face sessions in dedicated, calm counselling spaces in both Stowmarket and Ipswich, providing a confidential environment away from daily distractions. For those who prefer the comfort and convenience of their own space, I also provide secure online counselling via Zoom, offering the same quality of therapeutic support with added flexibility and accessibility.

Issues I Can Help With

I work with adults facing a wide range of life's challenges, including anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, stress, bereavement and loss, trauma, work-related pressures, and major life transitions. My hope is that our sessions will leave you feeling refreshed and with more clarity about your difficulties.

I have particular experience supporting people through addiction and substance misuse, various forms of abuse, trauma recovery, family conflicts, chronic illness and health anxieties, menopause, self-esteem issues, and the challenges of caring for others. My background includes extensive work with vulnerable adults and volunteer counselling with those affected by addiction and abuse.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does counselling take?

This varies for each individual. Some people find benefit in just a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term support. We can take it session by session and you can decide what feels right for you.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

Some appointments may be available the same week you get in touch and no more than a few weeks ahead.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes, everything you share is confidential within professional ethical boundaries. I will discuss these boundaries fully during our initial session, including the rare circumstances where confidentiality might need to be broken.

What if I don't know what to talk about?

This is completely normal. Many people worry about this before their first session. I will help guide our conversations, and there's no pressure to share anything you're not ready to discuss.

Can I have counselling if I'm taking medication?

Absolutely. Counselling can work alongside medication prescribed by your GP or psychiatrist. I may suggest you inform your prescribing doctor that you're receiving counselling.

How do I know if counselling is working?

Progress in counselling can feel subtle at first. You might notice small shifts in how you handle situations, increased self-awareness, or feeling more at ease with yourself and others. We'll regularly check in about how you're finding the sessions and what feels helpful.

What if I've never had counselling before?

Many of my clients are new to counselling, and it's completely natural to feel uncertain about what to expect. That's why I offer an initial consultation – so we can meet, you can ask questions, and see if counselling feels right for you before making any commitments.

Do you offer online counselling?

Yes, I provide secure online counselling via Zoom as well as face-to-face sessions. Online counselling offers the same quality of therapeutic support with added convenience and flexibility, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own space.
